The brazen theft of Caravaggio’s magnificent portrait of St Jerome from Malta’s St John’s co-cathedral in 1984 is the start point to this remarkable true story. The painting’s recovery nearly three year’s later occurred because of the heroic efforts of a handful of loyal Maltese chief amongst them was then curator of Malta’s museums Fr Marius Zerafa. He bore the brunt of the strenuous and at times dangerous negotiations. Below is a link to my 1998 ABC Radio National radio documentary describing this amazing story.
